Players from many different Counties attended, Bucks,Berks, Oxford, Herts,London,Bedfordshire,Wiltshire and Surrey just to name a few.
The standard as expected was very high in both the Men's and Ladies competition, last year's winner Paul Hogan was given an early shock as he just edged past local Beaconsfield player Rob Brereton 3-2, but it was short lived as Hogan fell at the last 8 stage to Bucks player Jason Knibbs.
Another local player Steve McLeod from Hazlemere made it into the last 16 for the second year running, only to bow out to the impressive Bedfordshire County player Micky Reed.
In the Ladies Oxfordshire county player Cali Birch was always looking in good form, and so it proved as she took the final winning well over Wiltshire's Jane Jenkins.

SOUTH BIRMINGHAM OPEN DARTS CHAMPIONSHIP - 9th Feb 2008
Over £1,440 was on offer at Stirchley United W.M.C. when South Birmingham Open Darts Championship was staged, the event attracted 173 entries from a wide area including London, Liverpool, South Wales & Oxfordshire. A top class event bringing life back to Birmingham darts with many well known players attending. It was also great to see many players from Birmingham taking part.
With £500 up for the winner players were soon finding their form in the early rounds, however several top performers went out early. The standard was high throughout, and following a series of thrilling games the final was reached - ranked 41st in the PDC World rankings Andy Smith faced Stuart Dutton from Bedfordshire over nine legs of 501 up. First leg to Stuart but Andy came back to lead at 2-1, Stuart produced a 160 checkout to level at two each. Following a further four legs it was all square at four each - in the deciding 9th leg Stuart Dutton emerged the winner and taking the £500 first prize.
Local lad and Sports Argus star Tony Randell reached the semis before losing out 4-2 to the eventual winner. Also in the semis S Arora from Shropshire lost 4-0 to Andy Smith. It was good news for the local Sports Argus team when a further two players reached the quarter-finals - Martin Tibbetts and Jim Norris. Other quarter-finalists were Joe Palmer (Oxfordshire) & Rob Green (Liverpool).
A first class turn out, plenty of top darts has helped to ensure the event will return next year.
